Have you ever heard “gospel tracts are not effective”? Do they contain the gospel? In other words saying that gospel tracts don’t work is saying the gospel doesn’t work.
A while back my husband and I went to a conference put on by Living Waters. One of the sessions was led by Mark Spence about using tracts. He shared various ideas on how to use them. He also shared testimonies on people getting saved through gospel tracts. I took that information and began sharing gospel tracts myself. I was excited for it.
A few ways my family has used tracts over the years are from handing them out at events, to placing them around a store, and handing them to people directly. We lived near a sports park that hosted a 4th of July celebration and you could see the fireworks clearly from our house. We would have a BBQ and invite friends, family, and open it up to anyone in the church. During the party we would walk over to the sports part and hand out tracts. We would hand out hundreds of tracts. The biggest hit were the Giant Money tracts. People came up and were asking if they could have one. The Million and Trillion Dollar Bills are fun to hand out as well. These are the ones we hand to people, leave with a tip, hide in stores, and just about any other way you can think. We have mailed them and given them to people along with the things they have purchased off of Facebook marketplace. I’ve even folden them in half and put them in cases of beer, this is easier when they are in open cases and not behind doors. We have gone to Rod Runs in our area and handed out this tract or one similar, it works well since rod runs tend to take you back in time. On Halloween we give tracts with candy. We personally put it in a ziplock with a few pieces of candy. Gospel tracts are easy to use and the options are endless on how to use.
Have I personally seen results? No, I haven’t seen the results personally. I might never know if anyone got saved as a result, or at least until I get to heaven. That doesn’t matter to me. I don’t need the recognition. I just need to be obedient to the Lord.
A few years ago we were watching a video of Ray Comfort talking about sharing the gospel and that he doesn’t always feel like it but he does it because God calls him to share the gospel. I was shocked! He is a man whose job is to share the gospel and for him to feel like that made me feel better and worse at the same time. I don’t always feel like sharing the gospel, it doesn’t come easy to me. I get nervous and my mind draws a blank. I allow those things to be enough for me not to share the gospel far too often. God commands us to share and I am to be obedient. Part of the reason for sharing the gospel as part of my challenge is to hopefully get more comfortable. I also want to grow the kingdom of God.
I don’t put any contact information on the tracts I hand out but most have a spot where you can. We did put our church's information on a lot that we handed out on the 4th of July one year and the church received a call that year. That was our last year doing that because we moved or we would have continued to add the church's information.
What if you can’t afford to buy tracts? There are lots of good free printable tracts. Be sure to read them first to make sure the gospel is presented clearly and accurately and any links are to solid websites, You can also ask your church if they have any you can have. Some churches even have tract racks where you can grab tracts to hand out.
By the way my kids favorite tracks to hand out are the IQ tests, there are a variety of different ones but the triangles are their top pick. I’d love to hear about your experience with tracts.
